River & Mountain Escape
River & Mountain Escape: Two-Day Getaway to Lousios and Mainalon
A two-day adventure in Mount Mainalo and the Lousios Gorge. Hike along unique trails by the river and historic monasteries, camp under the stars in the heart of nature, and experience rafting in the Lousios — a blend of intensity, adrenaline, and unforgettable moments.
Schedule
In the heart of Arcadia, where the river carves its story through the rocks, begins a two-day journey that combines exploration, calm, and pure adrenaline.
We meet at the ancient bridge of Gortyna, where the whisper of the Lousios river sets the rhythm of the adventure.
Day 1 – Hike through the Lousios Gorge
The trail unfolds through lush vegetation and echoes of history.
As we walk along the gorge, ancient watermills appear hidden among the trees — silent witnesses of another era.
Above us, built literally 200 meters above the riverbed, stands the Prodromos Monastery, clinging to the steep rock. The view from below is breathtaking; faith and nature blend in a scene that seems timeless.
Moments of stillness alternate with exploration stops — crystal springs, small stone bridges, and the soft roar of the river following us all the way.
The day ends in Karytaina, at a warm traditional guesthouse where we relax with local dishes and the calm of the Arcadian night.
Day 2 – Rafting in Lousios & Alfeios
The next morning, energy rises again.
We gear up for rafting of 3rd-degree difficulty, a perfect balance between excitement and flow.
The descent offers clean, technical passages, crystal-clear waters, and the feeling of gliding through a living landscape of green cliffs and hidden waterfalls.
At the end of the route, we take a short walk to a nearby waterfall — a refreshing finale before returning to calm ground, full of laughter, adrenaline, and connection.
